I've been researching hardware for my machine, which I've just taken delivery on, and am curious if there would be any hardware compatibility issues with the xvr-2500. The machine currently has the xvr-600, and I want the fastest possible accelerator I can put in it.

Suggestions from the Zen Masters in here?

Not sure why you're asking perf-discuss and opensolaris-discuss, and not the
more-on-topic xwin-discuss, but the short answer is that it is physically
impossible to connect a XVR-2500 in a Sun Blade 2500.

The XVR-2500 is a PCI-E x16 board, the Sun Blade 2500 has no PCI-E slots.
You need an Ultra 25 or 45 to get a SPARC workstation with PCI-E slots.

The Sun Blade 2500 only has PCI slots. The only SPARC PCI graphics card
with support included in OpenSolaris 2009.06 or Solaris 11 is the XVR-100.

(Solaris 10 supports a wider range of SPARC graphics, including the XVR-600
and all other graphics boards Sun sold that can fit into a Sun Blade 2500.
Other distros may support more cards - check their HCL's/documentation.)
